Brighton's Architecture

Brighton first came to notice as Brighthelmston, a small fishing village on the south coast of England. As a result of the patronage of the Prince Regent, later George IV, at the end of the eighteenth century, this little village came to fame and grew accordingly, attracting the wealthy and fashionable.

The architecture reflects this change of status and may be divided into three periods:

Regency

Victorian

Twentieth Century
