DESCRIPTION: It commemorates DR RICHARD RUSSELL (1687-1759). A Lewes-based doctor, he advocated the medicinal use of sea water,
not merely to bath in, but also to drink! The treatment proved so popular that he built himself a house in Brighton and lived here from 1754 to 1759.
